JOHN Burrows' Cookstown Burrows Engineering Racing team won four road racing titles last year and they got their 2017 campaign off to a flying start at the Tandragee 100 meeting which was the first pure road race of the year.
In Superbike qualifying, Derek Sheils showed why he is Irish Superbike Champion by taking pole position on his Cookstown Burrows Engineering Suzuki with a time of 3m.00.73, a mighty four seconds clear of William Dunlop who was on the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha R1.
In the Open race Sheils showed no mercy to his rivals and took a start to finish victory, beating Dunlop by over fourteen seconds and the Dubliner was the only rider to lap under the three minutes mark.
