What "Designed Efficient" actually means for your monthly bills

Energy efficiency is one of those phrases that gets used a lot and explained rarely. So here's the version that matters: a Hagan home is built to cost less to run, hold its warmth, and even generate some of its own electricity. Not as an upgrade. As standard.

We call it Designed Efficient - and here's what it means in practice.

A home that earns its rating

Every new Hagan home carries an A or B Energy Performance Certificate. That rating isn't a sticker; it's the result of decisions made long before a single brick is laid, from the frame outward.

For you, the EPC rating does two things. It tells you the home is genuinely cheap to heat. And it opens the door to a green mortgage — lenders increasingly offer lower rates and cash-back incentives for energy-efficient homes, and ours qualify.

Built warm, from the frame out

Hagan homes are built using timber frame construction. The practical headline: a home reaches wind and watertight stage within two days, which means a faster, drier, more controlled build. Timber is also the greener choice — it takes around 20% less energy to process than other structural materials, and every harvested tree is replaced.

Inside the walls, glass mineral wool insulation minimises heat loss and dampens sound, while a breather membrane protects the structure and improves thermal performance. Floor and roof insulation are specified beyond building regulations. The result is a home that holds its heat — with insulation that can cut energy costs by up to 50%.

Windows and doors that do more than look good

The double-glazed uPVC windows are manufactured by Munster Joinery using green energy from wind turbines and biomass power. Composite entrance doors pair the look of hardwood with serious thermal performance. Style and efficiency, doing the same job.

Generating your own electricity

Every roof integrates solar PV panels - a minimum of five black low-profile panels, positioned to help achieve that A rating. They produce electricity even on a cloudy day, feeding the home through a Solis inverter, and can save up to £500 a year on your electricity bill.

Heating you control from anywhere

The Ember PS smart heating system lets you manage your home's warmth from your phone, whether you're on the sofa or abroad. Schedules, boost, holiday mode, multiple users - all from a free app. Comfortable, convenient, and easy to keep costs down.

The smarter choice - for you and the planet

Lower running costs. A warmer home. Access to better mortgage rates. A smaller carbon footprint. Designed Efficient isn't a feature list; it's how we build every home, because it's the right thing to do on both counts.
