We know how it is. Every year you vow you’ll decorate like the Instagrammers and come December transform your home into N.I’s answer to the North Pole, complete with a snow machine and a couple of mini villages dotted throughout. But, when the time comes Christmas shopping, work parties, ice skating dates and compulsory trips to the Christmas market always seem to take priority and your frosted hallway starts to feel like an unachievable goal…

As it’s the season for giving, we’re sharing a few of our top festive decorating hacks, so you don’t have to miss out on any of the festive fun and still have an ‘Instagrammable’ pad (no snow machines included).

Go for low effort, high impact decorations

There’s a couple of Christmas decorations that, even on their own make a major impact. Botanical and evergreen garlands are perfect examples of this, as are lanterns, and jars or ornaments or pinecones. Don’t be shy, go all out wrapping items around banisters or windows, sticking sprigs around pictures, trailing decor along your mantel or creating a festive table space.

Make the most of corners and small spaces

If you don’t have loads of room, we’ve got you! Make the most of empty surfaces, this could be a windowsill, the top of a console or a set of shelves. Utilise these areas to create a festive display. It could be as simple as adding a festive throw blanket, a scene of bottle brush tress, or a few mini holiday houses.

String up some fairy lights

Another very quick and cost effective way to ‘festive’ up your home this Christmas is fairy lights. Literally, stick them around your door, throw them over a bush or scatter them on a windowsill. They’re so easy to get your hands on, so easy to put up and make the biggest difference. Who doesn’t love a little sparkle?

Switch up your cushions

How long does it take to change a pillow case?  A minute maybe? Changing out your cushions to something festive or throwing a Christmas themed cover over your sofa is a quick way to instantly make your living room feel more festive.
